Recently recognized by the NC Wildlife Commission as one of two certified Bearwise communities in NC. Neighborhoods in the Cove are taking the levels of bear activity seriously. A Bearwatcher system has been established throughout town which alerts residents of bear movement and is operating very successfully.
Feeding of bears and improperly secured trash containers in Montreat are strictly prohibited and will be enforced by strict fines.
