Happy Trails October 11, Flat Creek Crossing Steering Committee hosted a festive reception for folks attending the Holy Shift conference. There was live music, food (trail mix), drinks, a slide show, and information. Adam Combs brought examples of trail wheelchairs. Landcare members sold Jim Williamson’s watercolors of Montreat scenes as cards and prints Joe Standaert brought copies of his plant inventories for Montreat and the creek site. Benjamin Barker sold CDs after his hammered dulcimer concert, Keith Grogg, Tom, and Mary Donnelly played guitar and performed Happy Trails (sing-a-long!) and John Denver covers.
We are grateful to Montreat College for a Tree and Wildlife Survey at the Flat Creek Crossing Accessible Trail site that we will need for future grant proposals. Josh Holbrook (Montreat College Environmental Studies professor) and his students, Zoe Riggs (botany) & David Mayes (animals) showed equipment they will use for plant and animal inventories at the trail site, as they prepare to wade in the water and walk the banks before frost, and before all the leaves fall. Local botanist Joe Standaert brought copies of his plant species lists for Montreat and Flat Creek and stood ready to assist with the inventories.
